Braids and diffeomorphisms (ICMU School 27 July - 5 August 2026)
In the summer of 2026, I gave a series of lectures on
Braids and Diffeomorphisms for PhD students
at the
ICMU Summer School on Links, Braids and Diffeomorphisms of Surfaces.
The guiding theme was the construction of quasi-morphisms on diffeomorphism
groups of manifolds due to Gambaudo and Ghys, generalised and developed
by Brandenbursky. I used it as a motivation to learn the basics on
braid groups, quasi-morphisms and diffeomorphism groups of manifolds.

I thank all participants and staff for the fantastic atmosphere.
I would like to thank the students for actively attending my lectures and extra
classes, and for all questions and discussions (not only mathematical) during
the school, and for their kind comments about the quality of my teaching.
